It's not the only time that Activision's decisions with the Modern Warfare remaster have been questioned, either, with the pricing of the game's DLC - and indeed the existence of said DLC at all - being met with criticism from players. Although many expected Modern Warfare Remastered to appear as a standalone release in the future, Activision remained steadfast in stating that Modern Warfare Remastered would not be sold separately, but now those who did make that early special edition purchase may be left wishing they had waited until now. Nonetheless, this does not sit right with many Call of Duty fans. After all, Infinite Warfare itself was not the most well-received title in the Call of Duty series, and it's likely that many players would like to just keep their hands on the remaster instead. Indeed, given that these early players committed a lot of money to play Modern Warfare Remastered, some might feel that they at least deserve the same flexibility as those who pick up the game as a standalone release.Īlthough Activision has not announced exactly why this will be the case, one potential reason would be to stop Infinite Warfare players from trading in their copies of the game yet keep access to Modern Warfare Remastered. This is bound to be disappointing for those who bought a special edition of Infinite Warfare, but who have perhaps tired of the main game and would only like to keep the remastered around.

In spite of Modern Warfare Remastered's status as a standalone title, those who accessed the game via Infinite Warfare will not be granted the freedom to play the game without its little brother.

However, those who originally accessed the remaster via Infinite Warfare will not be able to get rid of the most recent Call of Duty disc or download just yet.Īs it turns out, Legacy, Legacy Pro, Digital Legacy, and Digital Deluxe Edition purchasers of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare who still want to access Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will need to keep their Infinite Warfare game disc or download in order to access the remaster. With Activision announcing the unsurprising move to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone game, fans of the original title would finally be able to buy the remastered version of the classic first-person shooter without the need to buy a special edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
